Spartan Race Dallas 2026 Is Almost Here: Where to Train for Spartan in Dallas-Fort Worth

Spartan Race Dallas 2026 Is Almost Here

Dallas-Fort Worth, the countdown is getting serious.

The 2026 Dallas Spartan Trifecta Weekend takes place October 17–18, 2026, bringing the Sprint, Super, Beast, Ultra and Kids Race to North Texas.

If you're registered, this is no longer one of those races sitting months away on your calendar.

It's time to train.

And if you're searching for Spartan Race training in Dallas, obstacle course training near Dallas or an OCR gym in DFW, you don't necessarily need to wait until race day to get your hands on obstacles.

At Amped Obstacles in Grand Prairie, Texas, athletes can train in an actual obstacle environment through classes, Open Gym or private training.

Run outside.

Build your endurance.

Do your strength training.

But don't forget one major part of preparing for an obstacle course race:

The obstacles.

What Races Are at Dallas Spartan 2026?

This isn't just one Spartan Race.

It's a full Trifecta Weekend.

According to Spartan's current event listing, racers can choose from:

Spartan Sprint 5K

Distance: 5K
Obstacles: 20
Dates: October 17–18

For first-time Spartan racers, the Sprint can be the most approachable entry into Spartan obstacle course racing.

But don't confuse shorter with easy.

You're still going to need to run and navigate obstacles.

Spartan Super 10K

Distance: 10K
Obstacles: 25
Date: October 18

The Super increases both the running distance and obstacle workload.

Spartan Beast 21K

Distance: 21K
Obstacles: 30
Date: October 17

The Beast is a major endurance and obstacle challenge. Spartan currently lists an average duration of roughly 4 hours and 45 minutes for the Beast on its Dallas event page, although individual completion times vary significantly.

Spartan Ultra 50K

Distance: 50K
Obstacles: 60
Date: October 17

The Ultra is exactly what it sounds like.

A massive endurance challenge combined with obstacle racing.

Spartan Kids Race

Spartan is also offering 1–3 km Kids Races with obstacles during the October 17–18 weekend.

What Is a Spartan Trifecta?

This weekend is particularly significant because Dallas is a Trifecta Weekend.

Spartan says athletes can complete a Sprint, Super and Beast during the same weekend to conquer the weekend Trifecta challenge.

That means some athletes aren't preparing for one race.

They're preparing to race repeatedly.

If that's you, your preparation becomes even more important.

How Should You Train for Spartan Race Dallas?

There isn't one magic Spartan workout.

A race combines multiple physical demands, so preparation should reflect that.

You have to cover distance.

You have to navigate terrain.

You have to deal with obstacles.

You have to keep moving while fatigued.

And depending on the course and obstacle configuration, your hands, forearms, upper body, legs and cardiovascular system can all be tested.

A sensible preparation strategy can therefore include several components:

Running + Strength + Grip + Carrying + Climbing + Hanging + Obstacle Technique + Recovery

That's also why simply running more miles may leave an important gap in your preparation.

Don't Forget Grip Strength

Ask experienced obstacle racers what can become a problem surprisingly quickly and you'll hear about grip.

Obstacle racing can require athletes to hold, hang, traverse, pull and maintain control while their hands and forearms become increasingly fatigued.

That's difficult to understand if your entire training program happens on treadmills and traditional strength machines.

At Amped Obstacles, athletes have access to an environment containing hanging and climbing challenges.

That allows you to actually experience what happens when your grip has to support your body.

Train Your Pulling Strength

Pulling strength can also become important in obstacle training.

Ropes.

Bars.

Hanging movements.

Climbing.

Transitions.

These require something very different from simply running.

Your training can incorporate movements that develop your back, arms, shoulders, grip and trunk while also giving you experience controlling your own bodyweight.

Learn to Hang Before Race Day

Hanging sounds simple.

Until you actually have to do it.

And then move.

And then transition.

And then keep holding on while your forearms are already tired.

Obstacle training gives you an opportunity to become more comfortable supporting and moving your body while hanging.

You don't want race day to be the first time you've seriously challenged this ability.

Build Core & Body Control

Obstacle racing isn't only about brute strength.

Athletes need to control their bodies while moving through unfamiliar challenges.

That can involve:

Stabilizing

Rotating

Reaching

Balancing

Jumping

Landing

Changing direction

Maintaining tension while hanging

This is one of the reasons obstacle training itself can be valuable.

You're not just producing force.

You're figuring out how to use your body to solve a movement problem.

Running Still Matters

Training at Amped doesn't replace running.

That's especially important for anyone preparing for the 10K Super, 21K Beast or 50K Ultra.

You still need appropriate endurance preparation.

Remember that the Dallas venue is described by Spartan as rugged ranch terrain.

If all of your running happens on a perfectly flat treadmill, consider whether your training adequately reflects the demands you're preparing to encounter.

Amped should be one part of your Spartan preparation.

Not the entire program.

Practice Obstacles Before Spartan Race Dallas

This is where Amped Obstacles becomes particularly useful for Dallas-area racers.

You can do burpees at home.

You can run around your neighborhood.

You can lift weights at a traditional gym.

But actually spending time climbing, swinging, hanging, balancing and navigating obstacles requires an obstacle environment.

Amped Obstacles gives Dallas-Fort Worth racers an opportunity to get hands-on obstacle experience before heading to Granbury.

Option 1: Spartan Training During Open Gym

Already know how you want to train?

Come use Open Gym at Amped Obstacles.

Open Gym gives athletes an opportunity to work independently within available facility rules and obstacle access.

You can spend time becoming more comfortable with hanging, grip-intensive movements, balance challenges and obstacle transitions.

This can be particularly useful for experienced OCR athletes who don't necessarily need a fully structured session every visit.

Option 2: Take Classes at Amped Obstacles

Maybe you don't know where to begin.

That's okay.

Amped offers coached classes that can expose athletes to obstacle movement and broader fitness development.

Rather than simply staring at an obstacle wondering what you're supposed to do, coaching can help you understand movement and technique.

For athletes preparing for their first Spartan, classes can also introduce you to a training environment that's very different from a conventional gym.

Option 3: Private Spartan & Obstacle Training

Want more individual attention?

Ask about private training at Amped Obstacles.

Private sessions can be especially useful when you have a specific race on the calendar.

Tell your coach:

Which Spartan distance you're racing

Your race date

Your previous OCR experience

What obstacles concern you

Your current fitness level

What you've already been doing for training

From there, training can focus more specifically on areas where you need additional work.

First Spartan Race? Start Now.

If Dallas 2026 will be your first Spartan, don't wait until October to touch an obstacle.

You don't have to become an elite obstacle racer in the next several weeks.

You do want to become more familiar with the physical demands.

Learn what your grip feels like when you're hanging.

Learn how your body responds to repeated obstacle attempts.

Figure out where you're strong.

And, more importantly:

Figure out where you're not.

Finding that out in September is much more useful than discovering it halfway through your race in October.

Training for the Spartan Sprint in Dallas

If you're doing the Sprint 5K, don't dismiss your preparation simply because it's the shortest adult distance offered during the weekend.

You're still preparing for approximately 5 kilometers combined with 20 obstacles.

Focus on developing a base of running fitness while becoming comfortable with basic obstacle demands.

For many first-time racers, simply learning how their body responds to hanging, climbing and grip-intensive movements can be valuable.

Training for the Spartan Super in Dallas

The Super 10K increases the distance to approximately 10 kilometers and currently lists 25 obstacles.

Now you're asking your body to continue performing obstacles after accumulating more running fatigue.

Training should increasingly consider the ability to maintain physical output when you're no longer fresh.

Training for the Spartan Beast in Dallas

The Beast 21K is a substantial undertaking.

Spartan lists 30 obstacles for the Dallas Beast.

This isn't something you should approach as simply an extended obstacle workout.

Endurance preparation becomes increasingly important.

At the same time, you don't want your obstacle abilities disappearing once you're tired.

Training for the Spartan Ultra in Dallas

The Ultra 50K currently lists 60 obstacles.

If you're preparing for this race, your endurance programming, nutrition strategy, pacing, recovery and race preparation deserve serious attention.

Amped can provide obstacle-specific supplemental training, but a 50K event requires a much broader preparation strategy than obstacle practice alone.
