Amped Obstacle Games 2026: DFW Athletes, It’s Time to Put Your Fitness to the Test
DFW Athletes: Think You’re Fit? Come Prove It on the Course.
You lift. You run. You train. You chase PRs. You put in miles before work, squeeze workouts into busy schedules and spend weekends doing the things most people consider difficult.
But how does your fitness translate when you step onto an obstacle course?
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, athletes, fitness enthusiasts, Ninja Warrior competitors and everyday weekend warriors from across Dallas-Fort Worth are invited to find out at the Amped Obstacle Games in Grand Prairie, Texas.
This is a timed, Ninja Warrior-style obstacle competition where your strength alone won't determine the outcome. You'll need to combine strength with speed, grip, balance, agility, coordination, endurance, strategy and the ability to perform when the clock starts running.
The Amped Obstacle Games are open to youth, teens and adults, with divisions extending all the way through 29 & Under and 30+. You also don't need to be an experienced Ninja Warrior athlete to enter. This is an in-house competition designed to give athletes of different backgrounds and experience levels an opportunity to compete.
If you've been waiting for a reason to challenge yourself, this is it.
What Are the Amped Obstacle Games?
The Amped Obstacle Games are an obstacle-course competition hosted at Amped Obstacles in Grand Prairie, TX. Competitors will take on a course designed to challenge multiple aspects of athletic performance rather than simply testing one exercise or movement.
The competition takes place August 23, 2026, with the first course walk-through beginning at 8:00 AM. Current divisions include 7U, 9U, 11U, 13U, 15U, 29U and 30+. Competitor registration is currently $70, while spectator admission is $5.
This is not a professional league competition. That is intentional.
You don't need a professional Ninja résumé. You don't need to have competed on television. You don't even need previous obstacle-course competition experience.
If you want to test yourself, there is a place for you on the course.
This Isn't Just for Ninja Warrior Athletes
Ninja athletes will naturally feel at home at the Amped Obstacle Games, but we're also calling out the rest of the DFW fitness community.
If you're a runner, lifter, HYROX athlete, Spartan racer, OCR athlete, CrossFit enthusiast, calisthenics athlete, climber, functional fitness enthusiast, recreational athlete or simply the person in your friend group who is always looking for the next physical challenge, we want to see what you can do.
Your existing training gives you tools.
The obstacle course asks you to figure out how to use them.
A strong athlete may discover that grip becomes the limiting factor. A fast runner may encounter an obstacle where slowing down and controlling their movement matters more than speed. Someone with great endurance may discover that technique saves more energy than simply trying harder.
That's what makes obstacle competition different.
Runners: Your Engine Is Only the Beginning
DFW has a massive running community, from recreational 5K runners to marathoners and competitive endurance athletes.
Running gives you an engine.
Now let's add obstacles.
Instead of maintaining a predictable movement pattern, obstacle competition can require you to transition between running, jumping, hanging, balancing, climbing and other physical challenges.
Your heart rate is up, but you still have to think. Your grip is getting tired, but you still need control. The fastest route isn't necessarily the smartest route.
For runners looking for a completely different fitness event in Dallas-Fort Worth, the Amped Obstacle Games offer an opportunity to take that conditioning into unfamiliar territory.
Strength Athletes: Can You Apply That Strength?
Being strong is valuable.
But an obstacle course doesn't care what you bench, squat or deadlift.
The question is whether you can apply your strength to the challenge in front of you.
Can you support your bodyweight? Can you maintain your grip? Can you generate momentum and control it? Can you move efficiently instead of simply muscling through every challenge?
For lifters and strength-training enthusiasts, obstacle competition can expose a completely different expression of strength.
You may leave with a new appreciation for just how many ways there are to be strong.
HYROX, Spartan and OCR Athletes: Here's Another Challenge
If you're already preparing for HYROX, Spartan Race, Terrain Race or another endurance or obstacle event, you probably don't need much convincing.
You already understand the appeal of having something on the calendar.
Competition gives training direction.
The Amped Obstacle Games provide another opportunity to test yourself in a course environment where grip, body control, obstacle technique and strategy can play a larger role.
This isn't a HYROX simulation or Spartan course. It's a different challenge, and that's precisely the point.
Come see how your fitness transfers.
CrossFit and Functional Fitness Athletes: How Functional Is Your Fitness?
Functional fitness is built around the idea of developing physical capabilities that extend beyond a single machine or movement.
Obstacle competition puts that idea into practice.
You may have to produce force, control your bodyweight, coordinate multiple movements and solve a physical problem while fatigued.
There's no barbell telling you exactly where to put your hands. There isn't always a perfectly symmetrical movement. The obstacle presents the problem, and you have to figure out the solution.
If you spend your week developing broad physical capacity, the Amped Obstacle Games give you an opportunity to apply it somewhere completely different.
Calisthenics and Climbing Athletes: Bring That Grip
If pull-ups, hangs, bodyweight strength and grip work are already part of your training, you may have some useful tools for the course.
But Ninja Warrior obstacles add another variable: movement.
Static strength and controlled repetitions don't always translate perfectly when you need to generate momentum, transition between holds or make decisions quickly.
That's what makes competing interesting.
Come find out where your strengths carry over and where the course exposes something new.
Weekend Warriors: This Event Is for You Too
You don't need to structure your entire life around training to call yourself an athlete.
Maybe you work all week and train whenever you can. Maybe you run local races, lift three days a week, play recreational sports, hit group fitness classes or simply enjoy finding difficult things to do on weekends.
The Amped Obstacle Games were designed to welcome athletes who want a challenge, not just elite competitors.
Amped specifically encourages beginners to compete and describes competition as an opportunity to gain real course experience, encounter new obstacles and movement styles, build confidence and create motivation for future training.
You don't have to clear everything.
You don't have to win.
You have to be willing to step onto the course.
What Will the Course Test?
Obstacle competition is interesting because there isn't one physical attribute that guarantees success. Depending on the obstacles and course design, competitors may need to draw on several abilities throughout a run.
Grip strength and endurance matter when you're hanging, swinging or maintaining contact with an obstacle. Balance and coordination matter when brute force won't solve the problem. Speed and agility can matter when moving efficiently between challenges. Strength and power can help with demanding transitions and explosive movements. Endurance becomes increasingly important as fatigue accumulates.
Then there's something harder to quantify: decision-making.
Competition adds pressure. You have to control your nerves, understand the rules, choose your approach and execute while knowing that the clock is running.
Amped's competition program specifically emphasizes learning course strategy, understanding competition rules, building grip strength and endurance, developing obstacle technique and training mental focus.
Why You Should Compete Even If You Don't Think You're Ready
Waiting until you feel completely ready is an easy way to never compete.
There's always another skill to learn. Another weakness to improve. Another few pounds you could lose. Another PR you could hit. Another month you could train.
At some point, you have to test what you've built.
Competition creates a benchmark.
Maybe you surprise yourself and crush the course. Maybe you find one obstacle that shuts you down. Maybe nerves affect you more than expected. Maybe you discover that you're much better at obstacle racing than you thought.
Every one of those outcomes gives you information you didn't have before.
Amped explicitly welcomes first-time competitors and emphasizes that athletes don't need to clear the entire course or finish on the podium for the experience to be worthwhile.
Bring Your Training Partner and Settle It on the Course
You know that person you train with who always claims they'd beat you at anything athletic?
Send them this article.
The Amped Obstacle Games are an opportunity to turn the friendly competition into something measurable.
Same event. Same course. Same clock.
See what happens.
And if your training group, run club, gym crew or fitness community wants something different to do together, register for the competition and make August 23 your next challenge.
Youth Athletes Can Compete Too
The Amped Obstacle Games aren't only an adult fitness competition. Youth divisions begin with 7 & Under and progress through 9U, 11U, 13U and 15U before moving into the adult categories.
That makes the event an opportunity for young Ninja athletes as well as kids involved in gymnastics, parkour, cheer, tumbling, football, soccer, baseball, softball, swimming, wrestling, track or other sports to experience a different type of competition.
Young athletes don't need previous Ninja competition experience to participate.
For some kids, this may be their first obstacle competition.
For others, it may be another opportunity to chase the podium.
What If You've Never Touched a Ninja Warrior Obstacle?
You're still invited.
The Amped Obstacle Games are specifically described as beginner-friendly. Amped uses multiple age divisions, scaled obstacles, clear rules and supportive judging to create an environment that allows athletes with different levels of experience to participate.
Of course, experience helps. Grip strength helps. Technique helps.
But you don't have to wait until you're an expert before entering your first competition.
Sometimes the competition is what shows you what to train next.
Compete Against the Course, the Clock and Yourself
Yes, there will be winners.
Yes, there will be prizes.
Amped confirms that winners will receive prizes, with additional giveaways planned for the competition.
But there are several ways to win at an event like this.
For one athlete, winning means standing on the podium. For another, it means completing an obstacle they've never attempted. Someone else may simply want to finish farther into the course than expected.
Your goal belongs to you.
The clock simply gives you an answer.
Come Watch the Competition
Not ready to compete this time? Come experience it.
Spectator tickets are available for $5, giving friends, family members, training partners and DFW fitness fans an opportunity to watch the action and support competitors. Amped notes that spectator admission also helps the small, family-owned and operated facility manage attendance because of facility capacity restrictions.
Bring your family. Bring your training crew. Come cheer loudly.
And after watching the competition, don't be surprised if you're the one registering next time.
